You had to know this was coming.
The world’s most famous pop star is finally getting married — America’s version of the royal wedding — and she just so happens to also be the queen of Easter eggs and misdirection.
Up until this morning, the widely held belief was that Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce would get married on June 13, 2026, in Rhode Island. Most of that belief came from Page Six reporting it last December, but it was additionally easy to believe because Swift is a self-identified triskaidekaphiliac.
But we underestimated Swift. For her entire 14-time-Grammy-winning career, the first and/or easiest guess has rarely been the correct answer.
So, on Friday morning, Page Six reported that Kelce and Swift’s official save-the-date invitations had been sent, confirming that their wedding is set for July 3 in New York City.
Page Six relayed that Kelce and Swift had been “thinking about scrapping” the originally reported plan of marrying on June 13 in Rhode Island to instead go “all out” somewhere “that can accommodate more attendees.”
Last July 4, People’s Virginia Chamlee wrote an ode to the American tradition that was Swift’s annual Fourth of July Party. Ironically enough, Swift’s most viral Fourth of July Party photos came weeks before she met Kelce in July 2023.
“Happy belated Independence Day from your local neighborhood independent girlies,” Swift captioned an Instagram carousel featuring photos of her with Selena Gomez and the HAIM sisters.
On July 8 and 9, Swift brought her historic The Eras Tour to Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Chiefs. Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast later that month that he was “disappointed” that he didn’t get to give Swift a friendship bracelet he’d made for her.
On Sept. 24, 2023, Kelce and Swift hard-launched their relationship when Swift attended the Chiefs’ thrashing of the Chicago Bears, and two years later, Kelce gave Swift an engagement ring instead of a friendship bracelet.
The July 3 date fits into Swift’s lore, but it is also convenient for Kelce’s football schedule. The Chiefs’ official training camp schedule is yet to be announced, but NFL training camps always fall in late July.
On March 23, Kelce officially signed his new contract to return to the Chiefs for his 14th season. The 36-year-old has played his entire illustrious career in Kansas City since 2013. Kelce is the all-time franchise leader in yards (13,002), receptions (1,080), and touchdowns (82).
Swift had a front-row seat to the Chiefs beating the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LVIII and cemented themselves as the NFL’s modern dynasty. That Super Bowl victory made the Chiefs back-to-back champions, the NFL’s first repeat champion since Tom Brady’s New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005.
Kelce, two-time NFL MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, and All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones make up the core that has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl championships since the 2019 season.
While the Chiefs stumbled to an uncharacteristic 6-11 record last season, Kelce was still a top-5 tight end in all of football, with a team-leading 76 catches for 851 yards and five touchdowns.
While July 3 will soon (allegedly) be the most important date in Kelce’s life, April 23 is the next important date on his calendar.
Kansas City holds the No. 9 and No. 29 overall picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, and whoever the Chiefs select with those picks will be a major deciding factor in whether the Chiefs can reclaim their crown in 2026. Either way, Kelce will have a new ring.
