One of Netflix’s surprise hits is getting an unexpected follow up.
A ’10/10′ series that left fans ‘yelling at the TV’ is getting a sequel, the streamer has confirmed. New details about the upcoming title has been released and hopes to be as binge worthy as its predecessor.
La Palma originally released back in December 2024 and quickly became one of the most watched titles among subscribers. It followed a Norwegian family spending the Christmas holidays on the Canary Island of La Palma, and unexpectedly face disaster after a researcher discovers signs of an imminent volcanic eruption.
Meanwhile, Florida, according to Netflix will pick up on events just hours after the eruption occurs on the island. Billed as a standalone sequel, the story will focus on a Norwegian community in Florida (in the United States) that is said to be completely unaware that a devastating tsunami generated by the eruption is barrelling across the ocean toward them.

The original writer of La Palma Lars Gudmestad returns to pen the script while, Grey’s Anatomy director Cecilie Mosli will helm all four episodes. A definite release date is not yet confirmed but it is expected to drop sometime in 2027.
La Palma boasts a 100% rating
Gudmestad shared his excitement for the project. They said: “To be able to make Florida is a dream I have had for a long time, and I am very pleased that Netflix also believes in the project.
“Our ambition is to create a spectacular disaster series with characters audiences can recognize themselves in and truly care about, and that’s why it’s so reassuring to have such a talented and experienced director like Cecilie with us on this journey.”
Director Ceceilie Mosli added: “People confronted with crises are the most fascinating starting point for drama. With La Palma, Lars Gudmestad, Fantefilm and Netflix demonstrated the power of combining large-scale disasters with intimate human stories, and I am very proud and happy to be part of the new project, Florida.”
La Palma is the 8th most-watched non-English TV title globally on Netflix of all time, while the four-episode limited series racked up a staggering 70.3 million views altogether. It only managed to accumulate six reviews on website Rotten Tomatoes but they contribute to its impressive 100% rating.

One critic claimed: “La Palma is enjoyable and binge-watch-worthy, making us watch a terrifying reality in an engaging way.” Meanwhile, many fans were also just as impressed and shared their recommendations.
A fan posted: “I’m over here balling my eyes out and rose over here just a humming ..10/10.” While another said: “”La Palma delivers stunning visuals, compelling characters with each there own unique stories, and nonstop suspense throughout the series. It’s an exciting, well-crafted mini-series that keeps you hooked from start to finish.”
