‘I WOKE UP FAMOUS OVERNIGHT.’ Hero EMT Simone Kelly Reveals the Unexpected Reality of Life After Saving a Knicks Fan During One of the Most Viral Moments of the Championship Parade. What began as a split-second act of courage has transformed her life in ways she never imagined, drawing attention from millions and turning an ordinary public servant into a national talking point.

Who is Simone Kelly? EMT praised after viral NYC parade life-saving moment

Hero EMT Simone Kelly Reveals How Life Has Changed Since Saving Knicks Fan During Viral Parade Incident

Things have been extremely different since that moment.

Simone Kelly climbed onto a glass subway structure during the New York Knicks’ championship parade because someone needed help, not because she wanted attention. Within 24 hours, she had both — more than she ever could have imagined.

The 24-year-old EMT with the South Orange Rescue Squad was among the millions who packed Lower Manhattan on June 18 for the Knicks’ first championship parade since 1973. When a man slumped unresponsive atop an elevated platform near the World Trade Center subway station, Kelly pushed through the crowd, identified herself as medical personnel, and took over.

She administered Narcan, performed sternum rubs, and revived him as the city celebrated around her. Video of the rescue, captured by content creators on the scene, spread across every major platform within hours.

How the Viral Video Turned Simone Kelly’s Life Upside Down

Knicks fan comes back to life and immediately tries to kiss the medic who saved him

According to Kelly’s own account to the New York Post, the sudden attention has been disorienting in ways she never anticipated. What was meant to be a quiet act of duty became a story told and retold by millions of strangers, many of whom fixated on an awkward moment after the man regained consciousness and tried to kiss her.

“There have been people who are like, ‘Hey, I know someone who works here,’ or, ‘My husband knows a friend,’ ” Kelly said from her Maplewood home. “People are really going through the avenues to help me out.

“That’s really the only thing that I need personally. With all this attention for something I did medically, let’s get this to the platforms of people who can help me become a doctor!”

A pre-med student at Drew University studying neuroscience, chemistry, and psychology, Kelly has spent the past several days fielding interview requests, media appearances, and an outpouring of messages from strangers, all while trying to redirect the narrative toward the part of the story she actually wants people to focus on.

“New Yorkers helping New Yorkers,” she told one content creator at the scene, a line that has since been repeated across nearly every article written about her.

Simone Kelly Is Using the Spotlight for Something Bigger

Rather than simply riding out the viral wave, Kelly has tried to convert the moment into something lasting. She launched a GoFundMe to support OnPoint NYC, an organization focused on overdose prevention, and has used nearly every interview opportunity to push a single message: Narcan is free, easy to use, and something far more people should be carrying.

“Everyone should carry it,” she said. “It’s user-friendly.”

That instinct reflects how chaotic conditions were on the ground that day. Several other fans needed medical attention during the same parade amid overwhelming crowds and heat, a reminder that Kelly’s intervention was one of several emergencies first responders and bystanders dealt with throughout the celebration.

Kelly insists she doesn’t see herself as a hero, telling Cuomo that the real takeaway should be that “anyone can learn” to do what she did. Still, her life has changed in ways that have little to do with her own intentions. A routine act of training and instinct has turned a 24-year-old EMT and pre-med student into one of the most talked-about figures to emerge from New York’s championship celebration, whether she set out for that or not.
