‘EVERYONE IN THE ARENA NOTICED HIS REACTION.’” Victor Wembanyama Makes His Feelings Impossible to Ignore After Learning the U.S. President Will Attend NBA Finals Game 3. What should have been a routine pregame storyline quickly became one of the most discussed moments surrounding the Finals, as fans dissected every word, expression, and response from the Spurs superstar.

Victor Wembanyama said years of handling global attention have prepared him to block out distractions during the NBA Finals against New York.

If facing a 0-2 slide against the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals couldn’t move Victor Wembanyama’s dedication, nothing else will. And given the building anticipation around the final series of the season, he is very likely to keep things that way.

With the San Antonio Spurs trailing the New York Knicks in the series, Game 3 at Madison Square Garden already carried huge pressure. Additionally, attention surrounding President Donald Trump’s expected appearance at the game has given one more reason for everybody to root for the game.

Wembanyama, however, sounded completely unfazed by it all. When asked whether Trump’s attendance and the nonstop media attention surrounding the Finals could become a distraction, the Spurs superstar calmly dismissed the idea.

“Not really. I think it could be,” Wemby said. “Isolating myself is something I’ve practiced over the years, and I think I’m good at it, so it’s not a problem. This is something similar media-wise, like the Olympics.”

However, his comments say plenty about how the French superstar views the moment. Even before he became a household name for being the face of the Spurs franchise, the 22-year-old already experienced global attention on the international stage.

He believes experience has prepared him for the overwhelming spotlight of the NBA Finals. Wembanyama also explained that accepting pressure, rather than fighting it, has helped him stay mentally grounded throughout the postseason. That said, the Spurs desperately need that mindset heading into Monday night.

Wemby Reveals What Spurs Need to Do 'Better' in G2 After Loss to Knicks in NBA Finals G1

Despite the tanking pressure after the Finals series slide, Victor Wembanyama is not backing away from it. If anything, he appears to be embracing it.

“I think the key is acceptance a lot of times,” he said Sunday. “Taking a step back, realizing all the journey that’s behind this and what’s ahead of this. Just being OK with who I am, where I am, what I’m doing.”

“This is everything that I wished for. There’s really no reason to overthink it,” he added.

The 22-year-old faced heavy criticism after the closing moments of Game 2. Wembanyama committed a turnover, fouled Jalen Brunson on the next possession, then missed the potential game-winning jumper in the final seconds.

Despite that sequence, the Spurs star believes the team can still flip the series.
